A member of York Opera since 1981, Clive has played many principal
parts, including the title roles in Verdi's Nabucco and Mozart's Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva in
Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Poor Claus, in the world premiere of Hans Gal's Rich Claus, Poor
Claus, Ping in Puccini's Turandot, the Grand Inquisitor in Verdi's Don Carlos, Morales in Carmen,
Pish Tush in The Mikado and, most recently, Tonio in I Pagliacci and Triquet in Tchaikovsky's Eugene
Onégin. A former chairman of the group, he is now its President. Clive recently retired as one of
Her Majesty's Inspectors of Schools and has since been a full-time doctoral student at the University
of Manchester, his research topic being "York's Theatre Royal since 1948".
