Jasmine Caine

Jasmine started singing opera and operetta very early. In 2003, at the age of 11, she joined Leeds Youth Opera. Over a 9-year membership she has performed in 17 of its productions and undertaken various principal roles such as Papagena in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Medium 1 in The Poisoned Kiss by Vaughan Williams, and Cupid in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld. After moving to York to study history at the University of York, Jasmine began her vocal training in 2009 with her teacher, Catherine Thornton. She first joined York Opera in 2010 for the production of Music Fit for a Queen, in which she covered the part of Belinda in Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, sang the part of the May Queen in the excerpts from German's Merrie England, and joined the chorus in those from Britten's Gloriana. Since then she has performed the role ofAngelina in their 2011 production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury, and sung various solo pieces and ensembles in their recent rounds of concerts. In 2013 Jasmine will be performing in Candide and auditioning for a part in Carmen, both with Leeds Youth Opera. She also hopes to take part in York Opera's next production.
