Amanda Shackleton

Amanda joined York Opera in 1980. Since then she has sung in the chorus for most productions, graduating from a handmaiden in Puccini's Turandot to a variety of character roles. The latter have included Nancy and the Primrose Seller (Hugh the Drover), Chloe (Princess Ida), a Bridesmaid (Trial by Jury), Grace (A Victorian Christmas Eve), Joan (Home for Christmas 1944), Mrs Partlett (The Sorceror), Princess (Suor Angelica), a Shepherd (The Christmas Story), Pitti-Sing (The Mikado), Faustine (Die Fledermaus), Inez (The Gondoliers), Dame Carruthers (The Yeomen of the Guard), Queen Elizabeth I (Merrie England), and Dame Hannah (Ruddigore). She is looking forward to playing Fleta, a role which she first adopted in our production of Iolanthe thirteen years ago.
